EIGHTY-ONE people died of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, the fourth straight day deaths have exceeded 80 as the latest movement-control order (MCO 3.0) to bring down infection numbers comes to the end on Monday.

The number of deaths on Wednesday was 83, Thursday (84) and yesterday (82). The new fatalities today raised the death toll to 4,884.

Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there was a marginal decrease in the number of intensive care unit (ICU) admissions with 866. Of this number, 435 are on respiratory support.

Meanwhile, new cases outnumbered recoveries today with 5,803 new infections against 5,193 recoveries.

With this, the cumulative total of recoveries now stood at 662,932 while the national caseload is up to 728,462.

Active cases, on the other hand, stood at 60,646.

There were ten dead on arrival cases today, of whom four were suffering from obesity.

The youngest person to succumb to Covid-19 today was a 26-year-old man who was brought in dead to Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah in Klang. He had suffered from obesity.

The oldest was a 97- year-old woman who died at the Hulu Terengganu Hospital. Her health history was not stated.

Selangor reported the highest number of deaths with 30 cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (14 cases), Johor (12 cases), Negeri Sembilan (9 cases) and Sarawak (5 cases).

Pahang and Malacca reported three cases each while Labuan reported two.

Penang, Kedah, and Terengganu reported one case each. – June 26, 2021.
