Funeral sparks cluster of 39 cases in Sarawak

A FUNERAL sparked a cluster of 39 cases in Sarawak, said director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah. 

He said Nyelutong was one of 14 clusters reported today, and one of two community clusters on the list. 

The cluster involving attendees of a funeral had cases scattered over the Betong, Samarahan, Sibu, Lubuk Antu and Sri Aman districts.

The second community cluster on the list today is Permatang Bachok, in Kelantan. The cluster, which stemmed from visits, reported 18 cases. 

Apart from the two community clusters, there were nine workplace clusters, two detention centre clusters and one involving a high-risk group. 

The two detention centre clusters were Tembok Tawau (9 cases) in Tawau, Sabah and Tembok Harapan 2 (21) in Gombak, Selangor.

The Changkat Intan cluster in Hilir and Batang Padang, Perak reported 35 cases. It was the sole cluster in the high-risk group category and involved the staff and patients of a medical facility in Changkat Jong. 

The remaining nine clusters on the list today were workplace clusters. These were found in factories, construction sites and a supermarket. 

Noor Hisham said there are currently 868 active clusters in the country. – June 26, 2021.
