Festive gathering sparks cluster of 106 cases in Sarawak

A COVID-19 cluster of 106 cases emerged following a festive gathering in Sarawak, Health Director-General Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said today.
The community cluster known as Po Ai was reported at a village of the same name in Sri Aman.
It was one of the 23 new Covid-19 clusters reported today.
Besides Po Ai, there were also seven other community clusters on today’s list.
Three of them are in Kelantan, namely, the Jalan 14/44 Padang Tembak cluster of 16 cases in Kota Baru; Kg Nibong Lemal in Pasir Mas with eight cases; and Kg Pangkal Jetas in Machang with 19 cases.
Sarawak also had two more community clusters apart from Po Ai, while Sabah and Johor had one each.
The majority of today’s clusters – 13 – were still linked to workplaces, said Noor Hisham, and included factories and construction sites.
They are:
- Industri Jalan Ikan Duyung, Klamg, Selangor – 37 cases
- Industri Subang Utama Enam, Klang and Petaling, Selangor – 28 cases
- Jalan PPS Satu, Klang, Selangor – 12 cases
- Industri Jalan Masjid Batu Sembilan, Kuala Langat dan Klang, Selangor – 186 cases
- Perindustrian 33 in Kepong, Kuala Lumpur – 13 cases
- Pasar TTDI in Kepong and Cheras, Kuala Lumpur – 11 cases
- Jalan Prima Impian in Kepong, Kuala Lumpur – 26 cases
- Jalan Thean Teik in Timur Laut, Penang – 20 cases
- Perindustrian Murni Empat in Kulai, Johor – 36 cases
- Jalan Penaga Industri in Johor Bahru and Kota Tinggi, Johor – 35 cases
- Batu 23 Choh in Kulai, Pontian and Batu Pahat, Johor – 6 cases
- Perindustrian Rami Satu in Muar, Johor – 22 cases
- Industri Bidor in Batang Padang, Perak – 8 cases
Two more clusters were a high-risk group, the Jalan Emas Putih cluster of eight cases in Klang at an old folks home, and the Meranti Indah cluster of 16 cases in Bera, Pahang, involving staff and children at an education centre.
Noor Hisham said there are currently 886 active clusters in the country. – June 30, 2021.
