8% of the population fully vaccinated

AS many as 2.6 million Malaysians, or 8% of the population, have been fully inoculated of the Covid-19 vaccine as of yesterday, said the Special Committee on Covid-19 Vaccine Supply.
Meanwhile, another 6.3 million people, or 19.6% of the population, have received their first dose of the vaccine, it said on Twitter.
More than nine million shots have been administered, 206,015 of them yesterday, of which 127,385 were first shots and 78,630, second doses.
Putrajaya has outstripped the other federal territories and states in getting its residents fully inoculated with two doses, at 41.9% of the population. It is followed by Labuan at 25% and Perlis at 23.5%.
Selangor, which continues to report the highest number of daily infections, has the lowest vaccination rate.
As of yesterday, the state only reported 348,853 or 5.3% of its population fully vaccinated, out of 6.56 million residents.
For Malaysia to transition to phase 2 of the National Recovery Plan, 10% of the population must be fully vaccinated.
Other indicators that have to be met are for daily Covid-19 infections to fall below 4,000, and for occupancy of beds in intensive care to drop to “moderate”.
Daily coronavirus cases, however, have exceeded 6,000 in the last four days.
Yesterday, Malaysia recorded 6,045 new Covid-19 cases and 63 deaths. – July 5, 2021.
