91 Covid-19 deaths, 948 in ICU

THE country recorded 91 Covid-19 deaths today, said director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

The total number of deaths today takes the nationwide cumulative toll to 5,768.

Meanwhile, the country also continued to record a high number of Covid-19 cases in the intensive care units (ICU) with 948 patients, 430 of them requiring respiratory assistance.

Today’s fatalities involved 47 cases in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur (10), Negri Sembilan (16), four each in Johor and Malacca, Sarawak (three), Perak (two), one case each in Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Labuan and Kedah. 

Noor Hisham said there were 4,863 recoveries, bringing the total number of recoveries to 719,678.

The oldest person to succumb to the virus was a 98-year-old woman from Negri Sembilan who had high blood pressure and heart issues. 

The youngest were two 25-year-olds, a man and a woman from Selangor and Johor respectively. The deceased woman suffered from obesity, meanwhile, the man had no known medical illness. 

There were also 10 dead-on-arrival cases today, with six having no known medical illness. – July 7, 2021.
