Record high of 91,272 active Covid-19 cases

MALAYSIA reported a record high of active cases today as 91,272 people in the country are ill with the coronavirus while intensive care unit (ICU) patients were also at an all-time high at 964, said Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
There were also 102 new deaths.
This is the first time since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic that the number of active cases has crossed the 90,000 mark. The previous high was 87,841, which was reported yesterday.
The director-general of health said there were 964 critically ill patients in ICU nationwide, 452 of whom were on respiratory support.
The record number of ICU cases come just a day after the previous high of 961 cases, which was set yesterday.
Meanwhile, 102 people succumbed to the coronavirus in the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 6,260.
New cases outnumbered recoveries for the 17th consecutive day today as 8,574 new infections were reported against 5,041 recoveries.
With this, the cumulative caseload now stands at 844,870 and the total number of recoveries at 747,338.
There were 14 dead-on-arrival cases today, said Noor Hisham.
Eight of the victims had pre-existing health conditions while the information on the health statuses of the remaining six were not available.
The youngest person to succumb to the coronavirus today was a 29-year-old man who died at the Malacca Hospital. It is unknown whether he suffered from any pre-existing health conditions.
The oldest, however, was an 86-year-old man who was dead on arrival at the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang, Selangor.
He had a history of heart disease.
Selangor accounted for the highest number of deaths with 46 fatalities, followed by Kuala Lumpur with 16 and Negeri Sembilan with 14.
Pahang saw seven cases while Johor reported six.
Kedah and Malacca reported three cases each, Sabah and Penang with two fatalities while Kelantan, Perak and Sarawak reported one death each. – July 12, 2021.
