Record number of 11,079 new Covid-19 cases

MALAYSIA smashed all previous record-breaking firsts today after reporting 11,079 new Covid-19 infections in the past 24 hours, Health Director-General Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.
This is also the first time the daily caseload has hit five figures.
The previous high was 9,353 cases, reported on July 10.
Today’s new infections has taken the cumulative caseload to 855,949.
Health authorities and Deputy Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob have said to expect a higher number of daily cases, after commencing active test and trace, especially in areas under the enhanced movement control order (EMCO).
Selangor, where urban and industrialised areas of the Klang Valley are under EMCO, accounted for the bulk of today’s new cases with a 5,263 infections.
Kuala Lumpur and Negri Sembilan followed with 1,521 and 1,033 cases respectively.
Other states reporting new cases were Johor (406), Sabah (239), Sarawak (472), Penang (234), Kelantan (211), Perak (329), Kedah (497), Malacca ( 323), Pahang (321), Terengganu (93), Labuan (60) and Putrajaya (77).
Perlis was the only state that did not report a single infection.
On the vaccination drive, a record high of 421,479 doses of vaccine were administered yesterday.
With this, the total number of doses dispensed under the national vaccination drive now stood at 11.8 million, while 11.3% of the population have received two doses. – July 13, 2021.
