MALAYSIA administered 399,135 doses of vaccine under the national Covid-19 immunisation programme yesterday, the special committee for vaccine access said today.

A total of 281,481 people received their first dose, while a further 117,654 people received the second to complete the course.

According to the government, the latest figure shows that 16.9% of the population or 5.5 million Malaysians have been vaccinated, while 36.1% or 11.7 million have received their first dose.

In Selangor, 101,463 people received a dose of the vaccine yesterday, 73,921 of which were first doses. The state is also the leader in logging the highest number of infections, with 367,469.

Meanwhile, at 71,091 doses, Kuala Lumpur registered the second highest number of daily shots.

In total, 1.6 million people in the Klang Valley have been vaccinated, while 4.8 million have received their first dose.

Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin had said the programme aimed to boost the capacity for vaccinations to 500,000 doses a day.

The fast-track approach in the programme is to tackle the emergence of new and more deadly variants of the virus.

Overall, Malaysia has recorded 1,013,438 cases and 7,994 deaths. – July 26, 2021.
