THE majority of the 14,516 new Covid-19 cases reported today involved those who have not been vaccinated, Health Director-General Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said today.
People must get vaccinated, he stressed, when releasing figures that showed the majority of patients in each of the five Covid-19 stages were unvaccinated.
Of Category 1 patients (no symptoms) which formed 49.7% of today’s total number of new cases, 95.6% had no history of vaccination, Noor Hisham said in a statement.
In Category 2 (mild symptoms) which make up 48.5% of today’s new infections, 87.6% have yet to be inoculated.
Just over 67% of Category 3 (pneumonia) patients were also unvaccinated. Category 3, however, formed only 0.6% of the new Covid-19 cases today.
Category 4 (pneumonia and requiring oxygen) cases comprised 0.5% of today’s cases but 85.7% of those in this stage have yet to receive jabs.
Category 5 (critical state requiring respiratory assistance) patients were only 0.7% of today’s new infections, but 97.9% of patients in this stage also have not been inoculated.
“Therefore, get vaccinated immediately so that you and your family are protected from Covid-19 infections,” Noor Hisham said.
Most of the cases admitted to hospital involved those in Categories 3 to 5, while Categories 1 and 2 positive cases undergo self-quarantine at home.
As of yesterday, July 25, 17.3 million people in the country have been vaccinated.
According to the Special Committee on Covid-19 Vaccine Supply (JKJAV), this works out to 36.1% of the population who have been given one dose, and 16.9% of the population who have completed the two-dose course. – July 26, 2021.
