17,170 new Covid-19 cases

MALAYSIA recorded its third-highest Covid-19 figure today at 17,170 new cases, with the Klang Valley accounting for 54% of infections in the past 24 hours, director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.
Yesterday, the country recorded its highest infections in a single day with 17,405 cases.
Of the total today, Selangor recorded the highest number of cases, at 7,163, followed by Kuala Lumpur with 2,138 infections, taking the tally in the Klang Valley to 9,301, or 54% of the cases recorded in the past 24 hours.
Meanwhile, Kedah reported 1,212 cases, followed by Johor (1,054) and Negri Sembilan (884).
Earlier today, Noor Hisham reported that 56 Covid-19 cases were detected in Parliament.
According to the health director-general, the 56 Covid-19 positive cases involved two MPs, six escort officers and 48 officers from various government agencies.
He issued a reminder that those who have been confirmed positive for the virus will not be allowed to attend any parliamentary sessions.
Meanwhile, as many as 552,701 Covid-19 vaccine jabs were administered yesterday under the government’s inoculation drive.
A total of 353,771 people received their first dose while 198,930 got their second jab to complete the two-dose course.
Nationwide, 6.1 million individuals, or 39.3% of the adult population has had two shots, and 12.8 million people have had one. – July 29, 2021.
