MALAYSIA recorded a staggering 17,786 new Covid-19 cases, its highest daily infection figure since the pandemic began, said Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
 
The Health director-general said 8,362 new cases or 47% of the infections came from the Klang Valley, with Selangor reporting 6,400 cases and Kuala Lumpur with 1,962.
 
He noted that cumulatively, the country has recorded 1,113,272 Covid-19 infections.

Meanwhile, Kedah reported 1,389 cases, followed by Johor (1,114), Sabah (1,035), Negri Sembilan (929), Terengganu (883), Perak (775), Penang (713), Malacca (697), Pahang (653), Kelantan (580), Sarawak (485), Putrajaya (116), Perlis (16) and Labuan (9),

Also, for the fifth day in a row, health workers yesterday administered more than half a million doses of Covid-19 vaccine.

The Special Committee for Covid-19 Vaccine Access said 315,737 people received their first dose yesterday, and 196,360, their second dose.

Selangor dispensed the most jabs among the states, with 159,641, of which 93,290 were a first dose,

In the Klang Valley, 2.1 million people are fully vaccinated, and 5.5 million have received their first dose.

Labuan on Tuesday became the first among the states and federal territories to achieve herd immunity with 80%, or 54,800, of its adult population fully vaccinated against Covid-19.

The government aims to vaccinate 100% of the adult population by October.  – July 31, 2021.
