Covid-19 deaths pass 9000-mark

MALAYSIA hits another grim milestone today as the country records a total of 9,024 Covid-19 deaths after reporting 165 daily fatalities, director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.
Selangor reported the greatest number of fatalities with 52 deaths. This is followed by Johor with 30, Negri Sembilan with 23, Kedah with 18, Sabah and Kuala Lumpur with nine each, Penang with seven, Malacca with four, Perak, Terengganu, and Sarawak with three each, Pahang with two, and Kelantan and Perlis with one each.
Of the total deaths, 12 are dead-on-arrival cases.
Meanwhile, the number of patients in ICU have increased to 1,062 from 1,043 yesterday, with 534 patients or more than half on respiratory support, Noor Hisham said.
He added that the average infection rate in Malaysia stood at 1.12 as of yesterday.
“The states that recorded the highest Rt value were Terengganu (1.29), Kelantan (1.25), followed by Sabah.
“All states recorded Rts above 1.0 except Labuan, Perlis and Negri Sembilan,” he said.
The D-G said of the daily cases reported today, a total of 260 cases or 1.5% are from categories 3 (pneumonia), 4 (requiring oxygen), and 5 (critical condition).
Another 17,526 cases or 98.5% are from categories 1 (asymptomatic) and 2 (mild symptoms).
Meanwhile, 11,718 recoveries have been recorded, bringing the total recoveries to 914,639, he said. – July 31, 2021.
