494,214 Covid-19 vaccine shots given yesterday

THE government administered 494,214 Covid-19 vaccine shots nationwide yesterday, falling below the daily target of 500,000 for the third day.
Of yesterday’s figure, 230,053 were first doses, while 264,161 received their second dose, the Special Committee for Ensuring Access to Covid-19 Vaccine Supply said on Twitter.
This raises the total number of people with shots to 22.64 million.
Of this total, 14.9 million or 45.8% of the population have received one dose, and 7.7 million or 23.6% of the population has received their second dose.
Putrajaya aims to fully vaccinate the entire adult population by October. As of yesterday, 63.8% of the adult population has received one dose, and 32.9% of adults, two doses.
In the Klang Valley, which covers Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, 72% or six million of its population have had a first dose and 31.8% or 2.6 million people their second shot.
Yesterday, Malaysia reported a record high of 19,819 new Covid-19 cases.
More than half of these new cases were from Selangor (8,377) and Kuala Lumpur (2,467).
The walk-in vaccination programme has also started in the Klang Valley, only for residents without prior appointments, and will run until August 22. – August 5, 2021.
