MALAYSIA hit another grim milestone as it hit an overall total of 10,019 Covid-19 deaths after recording 164 fatalities today, Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.

The fatalities today would mean the country has recorded more than 1,000 fatalities in less than a week. Last Saturday (July 31), it breached 9,000 deaths.

The director general of health said the number of patients in ICUs also increased from 1,069 yesterday to 1,078, with more than half (549 cases) needing respiratory support.

Meanwhile, Noor Hisham said the country recorded 13,893 recoveries, bringing the total number of recoveries to 976,626.

A total of 127 victims had underlying medical conditions, while 22 were declared dead on arrival.

Malaysia logged 20,596 Covid-19 cases today. Of the total, Noor Hisham said only 1.9% or 398 were of category 3 (pneumonia), 4 (pneumonia and require oxygen support) and 5 (critical stage).

Meanwhile, as many as 20,198 were of category 1 (asymptomatic) and category 2 (mild symptoms).

Noor Hisham said 4,660 of today’s cases had been vaccinated against Covid-19, meaning they contracted the virus after immunisation.

As for the infection rate, the country’s current infection rate (Rt) stood at 1.07.

“The states that recorded the highest Rt value were Terengganu (1.26) , Kelantan (1.31), followed by Perak (1.22).

“All states recorded Rt values above 1.0 except Labuan, Perlis and Negri Sembilan,” he said. – August 5, 2021.
