Over 570 intubated in ICU, 210 new Covid-19 deaths

THE number of Covid-19 patients under ventilator support has increased to 575 today, director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said. 

As of this day, the total number of admissions in the intensive care unit (ICU) remains at an all-time high with 1,097 cases, he said.

Meanwhile, 210 deaths were recorded today, binging the cumulative death toll to 10,389.

Of the deaths, 23 were dead-on-arrival cases and 158 had a history of comorbidities.

The deaths were recorded in Selangor (88 cases), Kuala Lumpur (33), Johor (28), Kedah (17), Sabah (13), Malacca (eight), Perak (six), Negri Sembilan and Kelantan (five each), Penang (four) and Pahang, Perlis and Sarawak (one each).

Malaysia logged 19,257 Covid-19 cases today.

Of this, Noor Hisham said only 740 cases or 3.8% are in categories three (pneumonia), four (pneumonia and requires oxygen support) and five (critical stage).

Meanwhile, 18,517 are of categories one (asymptomatic) and two (mild symptoms).

Noor Hisham said 4,178 of today’s cases had been vaccinated against Covid-19, meaning they contracted the coronavirus after inoculation.

As for the infection rate (Rt), it currently stands at 1.09.

“The states that recorded the highest Rt value were Kelantan (1.28) and Sabah, Terengganu, Penang and Perak (1.19),” Noor Hisham said. – August 7, 2021.
