425,698 Covid-19 shots administered yesterday, committee says

HEALTH authorities administered 425,698 shots of Covid-19 vaccines yesterday.

The special committee for Covid-19 vaccine access said 186,035 people received their first dose yesterday, while 239,663 others received the second dose to complete their vaccination course.

Based on the latest statistics, 8.2 million or 25.3% of the population have been vaccinated, while 15.3 million or 47% have received their first doses.

Meanwhile, 65.6% of the adult population has received one dose, and 35.3% of adults received two doses.

Putrajaya aims to fully vaccinate the entire adult population by October.

In the Klang Valley, which includes Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, 72.9%, or 6.1 million of its population, have had a first dose and 34.9% or 2.9 million people their second shot.

Yesterday, Malaysia reported 19,257 new Covid-19 cases.

More than half of these new cases were from Selangor (7,804) and Kuala Lumpur (2,450).

The walk-in vaccination programme has also started in the Klang Valley, only for residents without prior appointments, and will run until August 22. – August 8, 2021.
