570 intubated, 201 new Covid-19 deaths today

THE number of Covid-19 patients that require ventilator support remains high at 570 people, director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said today.
Noor Hisham said that as of today, 1,096 patients are still receiving treatment in intensive care units.
Meanwhile, 201 deaths were recorded in the past 24 hours, which marks the second day in a row that a decline in fatalities has been recorded.
The highest daily fatality rate to date was on Sunday (August 8, 2021), which saw a total of 360 Covid-19 deaths, raising the country’s cumulative death toll to 11,162.
With the latest number of deaths in the last 24 hours, a total of 2,138 people have passed away from Covid-19 within the first 10 days of August 2021.
Of the deaths, 34 were dead-on-arrival cases and 152 had a history of comorbidities.
Selangor has the highest number of fatalities with 87 deaths. This is followed by Kuala Lumpur with 37 deaths, Johor with 20 deaths, Perak and Sabah with 12 deaths each, Penang with 10 deaths, Malacca with eight deaths, Negri Sembilan with five deaths, Kedah and Sarawak with three deaths each, and Terengganu with two deaths.
In terms of new Covid-19 cases, Malaysia logged 19,991 infections today.
Noor Hisham said patients in categories three (pneumonia), four (pneumonia and requires oxygen support), and five (critical stage) make up only 385 cases or 1.9% of the daily cases recorded today.
Meanwhile, 19,606 cases are from categories one (asymptomatic) and two (mild symptoms).
He added that of the new infections recorded today, 4,632 patients have been inoculated against Covid-19, meaning they contracted the virus after receiving their vaccination.
The country’s current infection rate (Rt) stands at 1.06.
“The states that recorded the highest Rt value are Perlis (1.33), Kelantan (1.24) and Terengganu (1.18),” he said. – August 10, 2021.
