Active Covid-19 cases continue to rise, now at 233,358

ACTIVE Covid-19 cases reached a new high today after continuing on an uptrend for more than 40 days in a row, with 233,358 people nationwide currently ill with the virus, director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.
The uptrend began on June 25, when the active caseload stood at 60,117.
Meanwhile, 1,053 people are currently being treated in intensive care units at hospitals, of whom 546 are intubated.
The coronavirus also claimed the lives of 211 people in the past 24 hours, taking the death toll to 11,373.
New cases continued to outnumber recoveries as 20,780 new infections were reported against 17,973 recoveries.
With this the national caseload now stands at 1.32 million while recoveries total 1.07 million.
A total of 5,138 or 24.7% of the positive cases today have been vaccinated. A majority of them (3,633 cases) were in category two or mildly symptomatic, while 1,422 were asymptomatic.
Six of them were critically ill (category five) while 20 cases were in category four and 57 in category three.
As for the unvaccinated, there were 8,158 cases in category one, 7,167 in category two, 109 in category three, 57 in category four and 151 in category five.
Sixteen of today’s fatalities were dead-on-arrival cases while the remaining victims died at hospitals.
Selangor reported the highest number of deaths with 79 cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (41), Kedah (21), Johor (16) and Sabah (13).
Negri Sembilan and Terengganu reported eight deaths each while Penang and Perak reported seven each.
There were six deaths in Malacca and five in Pahang. – August 11, 2021.
