MALAYSIA reported 318 Covid-19 fatalities today while active cases reached a new high of 237,021, Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.

With the fresh fatalities, the country’s Covid-19 death toll stood at 11,691.

Meanwhile, 1,059 patients were currently being treated at intensive care units (ICU) in hospitals nationwide, of whom 543 are intubated.

The daily tally reached an unprecedented high today with 21,688 cases, of which only 58 were imported. Today’s cases have taken the national caseload to 1,342,215.

Meanwhile, 17,687 people have recovered from the coronavirus, which brought the total number of recoveries to 1,093,503.

Ninety-three of today’s fatalities were dead-on-arrival cases while 225 died at hospitals.

Selangor reported the highest number of fatalities with 118 cases, followed by Johor (52 cases), Kuala Lumpur (45 cases), Sabah (28 cases) and Kedah (19 cases).

Penang and Malacca reported 10 cases each, Perak reported nine, Pahang recorded eight and Negeri Sembilan saw seven fatalities.

Sarawak, Kelantan, and Terengganu each reported four fatalities.

A total of 2,720 or 12.6% of the positive cases were those who have been fully vaccinated. Majority of them (1,452 cases) were in Category 2 or mildly symptomatic, while 1,228 were asymptomatic.

Twelve of them were critically ill in Category 5, while there were nine cases in Category 4 and 19 in Category 3.

As for the unvaccinated, there were 8,941 cases in Category 1, 9,607 in Category 2 and 145 in Category 3. As for the advanced stages of infection, there were 75 cases in Category 4 and 180 in Category 5. – August 12, 2021.
