45 new Covid-19 clusters, 30 from workplaces

THE Health Ministry reported a staggering 45 new Covid-19 clusters today, most of which were linked to workplaces. 

Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 30 clusters were detected at workplaces. 

The largest of this was the Jalan Panglima Hitam construction site cluster in Klang, Selangor, which reported 122 cases. 

Apart from this, there were four other construction site clusters while the rest were mostly linked to factories. 

Noor Hisham also reported 11 clusters linked to community transmission. 

Among these were the Kg Batu Linting cluster (29 cases) in Kuala Penyu, Sabah, which stemmed from a social gathering; the Kg Serungga cluster (12 cases) in Pasir Mas, Kelantan, which is linked to visits; and the Bungey 2 cluster (28 cases) in Betong Pusa in Sarawak, which originated from a wedding.

Also on the list were two higher education clusters – Jalan Sunsuria (17 cases) in Sepang, Selangor and Jalan Panchor Muar (seven cases) Muar, Johor. 

Completing the list were two clusters in the high-risk category – Jalan Stadium Tujuh in Kota Baru, Kelantan and Jalan Manggis Intan in Hilir Perak, Perak. Both clusters reported 18 cases each. 

The Jalan Stadium Tujuh cluster is linked to a medical centre while the Jalan Manggis Intan cluster was detected at an old folks’ home. 

Noor Hisham said there are currently 1,281 active clusters in the country. – August 12, 2021.
