MALAYSIA reported 277 Covid-19 fatalities in the past 24 hours, with a staggering 96 dead-on-arrival cases, Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said today.

The director-general of health said the fatalities raised the death toll to 11,968.

Active cases reached a new high of 241,187 today, a continuing increase for the 49th day running.

Of this, 1,075 patients are receiving intensive care, with 537 getting respiratory assistance.

There were 17,025 recoveries against 21,468 new cases.

The national caseload now stands at 1,363,683 while recoveries totalled to 1,110,528.

Selangor reported the highest number of fatalities with 108 cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (66), Johor (26), Negri Sembilan (18), Sabah (15), Kedah (14) and Malacca (11).

Penang reported six deaths, Kelantan recorded five, Pahang saw two while Perak and Terengganu reported three cases each.

A total of 2,703 or 12.6% of the positive cases today have been fully vaccinated. Majority of them – 1,496 cases – were in category 2 or mildly symptomatic, while 1,139 were asymptomatic.

About 23 were critically ill in category 5, while there were 24 cases in category 4 and 21 in category 3. 

As for the unvaccinated, there were 8,817 cases in category 1, 9,346 (category 2), and 183 (category 3).

As for the advanced stages of infection, there were 171 cases in category 4 and 248 in category 5. – August 13, 2021.
