526 intubated in ICU, 282 new Covid-19 deaths

THE number of Covid-19 patients under ventilator support has dipped to 526 people today, director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.
Noor Hisham said that 1,059 patients are still receiving treatment in intensive care units (ICUs) as of today.
For the past few weeks, more than 1,090 Covid-19 patients were hospitalised in ICUs, of which 570 Covid-19 were intubated.
Meanwhile, the country reported 282 deaths today, bringing the cumulative death toll nationwide to 12,510.
Of the total fatalities, 101 are dead-on-arrival cases, and 200 had a history of comorbidities.
The deaths today involve 108 cases in Selangor, 45 cases in Kuala Lumpur, 44 cases in Johor, 24 cases in Penang, 15 cases in Kedah, 13 cases in Perak, nine cases in Sabah, six cases respectively in Sarawak and Malacca, five cases in Negeri Sembilan, four cases in Pahang, and three cases in Kelantan.
In terms of new Covid-19 cases, Malaysia logged 20,546 infections today, out of which 17,802 cases involve patients who are either unvaccinated or have not completed their vaccination.
Noor Hisham said patients in categories three (pneumonia), four (pneumonia and requires oxygen support), and five (critical stage) make up 373 cases or 1.8% of the daily cases recorded today.
Meanwhile, 20,173 cases are from categories one (asymptomatic) and two (mild symptoms).
The country’s current infection rate (Rt) stands at 1.05.
“The states that recorded the highest Rt value are Perlis (1.47), Kelantan (1.20), Sabah and Penang (1.17),” he said. – August 15, 2021.
