19,740 new Covid-19 cases

MALAYSIA recorded 19,740 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, a slight dip from yesterday’s numbers, Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said today.
Yesterday, the country recorded 20,546 cases. The highest recorded so far was last Thursday when 21,668 infections were reported.
Most of the cases reported over the past few weeks are from categories 1 and 2, which are asymptomatic and mild symptom cases.
Of today’s total, the Klang Valley reported 7,066 new cases, with Selangor having the bulk of the infections with 5,706 cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur with 1,360 cases.
Other states reporting more than a thousand infections today are Johor (1,510), Sabah (1,728), Sarawak (1,566), Kedah (1,592), Penang (1,251), Kelantan (1,227) and Malacca (1,120).
Other states and federal territories that reported new cases are Negri Sembilan (343), Pahang (646), Terengganu (688), Putrajaya (43), Perlis (20), and Labuan (2).
The country’s cumulative cases now total 1,424,639.
A total of 415,875 Covid-19 vaccines shots were administered yesterday, of which 143,671 are first-dose jabs and 272,204 are second-dose jabs.
So far, more than 45% of the adult population in Malaysia have been fully vaccinated while 70% of the total population have received at least their first dose of the vaccine. – August 16, 2021.
