FORMER prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin’s press conference at 3.30pm was abruptly halted when he objected to the event being broadcast live.

Just minutes after the broadcast began, Muhyiddin told his office that the press conference should not be aired live.

“It’s live? I thought it’s just with editors. But it’s live?

“Why should it be live when I have just delivered my keynote. It’s okay if it’s for recording but not live,” said Muhyiddin at the Prime Minister’s Office in Putrajaya.

The live broadcast was immediately stopped after Muhyiddin’s objection.

The “special” press conference was reserved for government-controlled and selected media editors only.

Earlier at 3pm, Muhyiddin announced his resignation in a live broadcast.

Blaming his political rivals, Muhyiddin said he had to resign as there were parties determined to seize power from him at the expense of Malaysian lives.

The Bersatu president said he could have taken the easy way out by working with the “kleptocrats”.

“But I did not choose that. I will not work with kleptocrats and interrupt the judicial process, or turn my back against the federal constitution to stay in power,” said the 74-year-old whose administration is the shortest at 532 days. – August 16, 2021.
