Covid-19 death toll passes 13,000

THE Covid-19 death toll in Malaysia crossed the 13,000 mark today after 293 fatalities were reported in the past 24 hours.
Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the cumulative fatalities from the coronavirus now stood at 13,077.
Meanwhile, the active caseload which continued on an uptrend for more than 50 days reached a new high of 252, 147 cases today.
Of this, 1,054 patients are currently being treated in intensive care, with 525 of them being given respiratory support.
Meanwhile, 19,631 new cases were reported against 16,468 recoveries. With this, the national caseload now stands at 1,444,270 while recoveries totalled 1,179,046.
Forty-four of today’s deaths were dead-on-arrival cases while 249 had pre-existing health issues.
Selangor reported the highest number of fatalities at 90, followed by Kuala Lumpur (47), Johor (42), Pahang (21), Malacca and Perak (15 each).
Negri Sembilan and Kedah reported nine deaths each; Penang, eight; Kelantan, seven; Terengganu, five; and Sarawak, two.
A total of 16,638 or 84.75% of the positive cases today had not been vaccinated.
Of this, 8,024 cases were in category one (asymptomatic), 8,362 in category two (mildly symptomatic) and 140 in category three.
As for the advanced stages of infection, there were 49 cases in category four and 63 in category five.
Of fresh cases that had been vaccinated, there were 1,327 in category one and 1,613 in category two.
Fifteen new Covid-19 patients are critically ill in category five, 11 in category four and 27 in category three. – August 17, 2021.
