Highest daily Covid-19 tally, recoveries and active cases today

MALAYSIA smashed triple Covid-19 records today as it reported its highest number of daily recoveries, highest number of daily cases and active caseload.
There were also 1,060 patients in critical care, and 225 deaths reported in the past 24 hours.
Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the country reported its highest daily recoveries to date, with 19,680 people recuperating from the coronavirus in the past 24 hours.
With this, recoveries from Covid-19 now totalled at 1,198,726.
On a grim note, the country reported an all time high of 22,242 new cases today, bringing the national caseload to 1,466,512.
As new cases outnumbered recoveries, active cases also reached a new peak of 254,484 cases today. The uptrend has been ongoing for more than 50 days now.
Of the 1,060 patients currently warded in intensive care, 540 are on respiratory support.
The latest fatalities bring the death toll from the coronavirus to 13,302.
A total of 18,631 or 83.8% of the positive cases today involved those not vaccinated.
Of these, 8,955 were cases in Category 1 (asymptomatic), 9,297 in Category 2 (mildly symptomatic) and 122 in Category 3 (patients with pneumonia). As for the advanced stages of infection, there were 69 cases in Category 4 (patients require oxygen) and 188 in Category 5 (critical condition and need ventilator support).
As for those who have been vaccinated, there were 1,680 cases in Category 1 and 1,880 in Category 2.
Nineteen of them were critically ill in Category 5, while there were 10 cases in Category 4 and 22 in Category 3.
Meanwhile, 35 of today’s deaths were dead-on-arrival cases while 175 had pre-existing health issues.
Selangor reported the highest number of deaths with 74 cases followed by 37 cases in Johor, 24 cases in Kuala Lumpur, 18 cases in Sabah, 15 cases in Penang, 14 cases in Kedah, nine in Perak, eight in Negri Sembilan and seven in Malacca.
Kelantan and Pahang reported six cases each while Terengganu reported five and Sarawak saw two deaths. – August 18, 2021.
