232 Covid-19 deaths in past 24 hours

MALAYSIA logged 232 deaths in the past 24 hours, taking the national death toll to more than 14,000, said director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

According to Noor Hisham, 14,168 people have succumbed to the virus since it arrived in Malaysia.

Meanwhile, there are 1,026 patients in intensive care units (ICU) nationwide, 496 of whom require respiratory support.

The numbers of ICU admissions and patients requiring respiratory support have decreased significantly over the past week.

Noor Hisham said today’s 18,200 recoveries bring the national recovery count to 1,278,670.

Of the total fatalities, 43 were declared dead on arrival and 189 had a history of comorbidities.

By state, there were 94 deaths in Selangor, 64 in Johor, 16 in Sabah, 15 in Kuala Lumpur, 11 in Kedah, nine in Kelantan, eight in Penang, five in Perak, three each in Malacca and Negri Sembilan, two in Terengganu, and one each in Sarawak and Pahang.

In terms of new Covid-19 cases, Malaysia logged 19,807 infections today, of which 16,368 were people who had either not been vaccinated or had not completed their course.

Noor Hisham said 19,464 or 98.3% cases were from categories 1 (asymptomatic) and 2 (mild symptoms). 

The remaining 343 patients were in categories 3 (pneumonia), 4 (pneumonia and requires oxygen support) and 5 (critical stage) reported today. – August 22, 2021.
