Covid infects 4,928 fully vaccinated people, 34 in ICU

THE Health Ministry recorded 4,928 Covid-19 infections among the fully vaccinated today, a slight dip from yesterday’s 5,252, Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.

The director-general of health said of the number, 34 are in intensive care units (ICU).

Of these “breakthrough” infections, Noor Hisham said 15 are critically ill (category five) and required ventilator support.

The other 19 are in category four where the patients have pneumonia and need oxygen support.

Meanwhile, 52 category three patients are under hospital care and observation.

For breakthrough cases, infections among the fully vaccinated are mild, therefore, the bulk of the new cases today are in the asymptomatic category one (2,430 cases) and mildly symptomatic category two (2,412 cases).

Noor Hisham, however, said a majority of the 20,579 new cases today are unvaccinated people.

A total of 15,651 or 76.1% of the positive cases today have not been vaccinated or have received only one dose of a Covid-19 vaccine.

There are 7,020 cases in category one, 8,262 in category two and 170 in category three.

As for the advanced stages of infection, there are 62 cases in category four and 137 in category five.

To date, 61.1% (14.3 million) of adults in Malaysia have had their second dose of a Covid-19 vaccine and 81.5% (19.1 million) of adults, their first. – August 29, 2021.
