MALAYSIA’S Covid-19 caseload is inching closer to two million after reporting 19,057 new infections in the past 24 hours, the Health Ministry said today. 

Today’s figure brings the national caseload to 1,824,439 infections. 

Of the total, eight states reported more than a thousand cases.

The figures today also showed that Sabah (2,279 cases) and Sarawak (2,723) combined reported more cases than the Klang Valley.

Selangor (3,775), Kuala Lumpur (711) and Putrajaya (18), which make up the Klang Valley, together logged 4,504 cases.

States that have been seeing a recent surge in cases are Johor (2,077), Penang (1,558), Perak (1,450), Kelantan (1,434) and Kedah (1,329).

These are among the states Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said must speed up vaccination to achieve 50% coverage of adults by the end of this month.

Other states and federal territories reporting fewer than a thousand Covid-19 cases today are Terengganu (605), Pahang (410), Malacca (338), Negri Sembilan (242), Perlis (99) and Labuan (nine).

To date, 66.7% (15,606,818) of the nation’s adult population have received two doses of a Covid-19 vaccine, while 86.6% (20,261,734) have received their first shot, according to the Special Committee for Ensuring Access to Covid-19 Vaccine Supply (JKJAV). – September 4, 2021.
