MALAYSIA has recorded 272 Covid-19 deaths in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of fatalities to 18,491, said director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

He added that the national active caseload had decreased from 255,789 to 252,668.

Meanwhile, he said, 975 patients are in intensive care units, with 435 requiring respiratory support.

Noor Hisham said there were 20,201 recoveries today and 17,352 new cases.

To date, 1,591,028 patients have recovered from Covid-19.

Of the total fatalities, 81 were declared dead on arrival and 167 had a history of comorbidities.

By state, there were 63 deaths in Selangor and Johor, 31 in Sabah, 21 in Kuala Lumpur, 20 in Penang, 17 in Sarawak, 14 in Kedah, nine in Negri Sembilan, eight in Kelantan, seven in Terengganu, six each in Malacca and Pahang, five in Perak, and two in Perlis.

Thirty new clusters were also reported, of which 16 were linked to workplaces, seven in the community, four among high-risk groups, two at an academic institution and one at a detention centre.

In total, the country has recorded 4,921 clusters with 1,453 still active. – September 6, 2021.
