THE government is planning to allow more walk-ins to Covid-19 assessment centres to reduce the number of dead-on-arrival (DOA) cases, said Minister of Health Khairy Jamaluddin (Rembau-BN).

“We have already allowed walk-ins into centres in Selangor and are planning to increase the walk-ins in other states as the number of Covid-19 cases drop,” he said in the Dewan Rakyat today.

According to Khairy, the government was working hard to reduce the number of DOA cases and wants to improve community awareness so that Covid-19 cases can be monitored more effectively.

“We are also improving the virtual assessment centres to ensure the Covid-19 symptomatic patients can be monitored more effectively to reduce the number of DOAs,” he added.

Khairy was responding to Mohd Fasiah Mohd Fakeh (Sabak Bernam-PN) on the effectiveness of assessment centres in treating Covid-19 patients.

The government launched virtual assessment centres on July 24 following the surge of cases in the Klang Valley. There are currently 209 centres throughout the country.

It was reported on September 9 that 86% or 2,417 of the DOA cases were not monitored by any health authorities.

As of yesterday, Malaysia recorded 23,744 Covid-19 deaths, 92 of which were declared DOA.

Currently, there are 207,698 active cases, including 1,154 in intensive care units. Of which, 633 patients require respiratory assistance. – September 22, 2021.
