Govt spent RM593 million on better medical equipment for Covid care, says Khairy

THE government spent RM593 million furnishing hospitals nationwide with additional equipment to treat Covid-19 patients, Khairy Jamaluddin told the Dewan Rakyat today.
“We have spent RM593 million to purchase additional equipment such as ICU beds, modular ICUs, ventilators, high flow oxygen cannula, ultrasound and more to ensure critical Covid-19 cases are treated properly,” the health minister said.
“This is on top of the RM148 million donations in equipment that we received from overseas and within the country.”
The MOH worked with suppliers overseas and at home to provide hospitals with equipment for the treatment of Covid-19 patients.
Khairy was responding to questions from Abdullah Sani Abdul Hamid (Kapar-PH), Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof (Alor Gajah-PN) and Teo Nie Ching (Kulai-PH).
On how much the government had spent on treating Covid-19 patients to date, Khairy said he would answer in a written statement.
Malaysia has reported more than 2.1 million cases of infection since the start of the pandemic. The death toll is 24,078, including 4,648 dead on arrival cases. – September 22, 2021.
