ROTATING pupils between physical lessons and online learning (PdPR) will keep them safe, said Education Minister Radzi Jidin said today.
According to Radzi (Ketereh-PN), the plan to have pupils spend 50% of their time in classrooms, with the other 50% at home taking PdPR lessons will mitigate crowding on school premises.
“In a class with 36 students, they will be separated into two groups: A and B. In the first school week, Group A will come to school for face-to-face learning, while Group B will take PdPR lessons. The following week, they will rotate,” he told the Dewan Rakyat.
Radzi was answering questions from Sim Tze Tzin (Bayan Baru-PH) about the parental confusion over the ministry’s plan for schools to reopen.
Students who are taking PdPR lessons will be given activities based on the topics that are being taught in classes and they will be given references by their teachers to help them learn, Radzi added.
“When it’s the PdPR (Group B) students turn for face-to-face classes, the teachers will check on their homework.”
To help facilitate this new environment, the ministry has prepared a guideline for teachers, headmasters, parents and students, he added.
“After consultation with various stakeholders, this is the best method to ensure that there is a safe learning environment and return more than 5 million students to their natural learning environment.”
Schools will reopen on October 3 for states in phases three and four of the national recovery plan.
Schools in states that are still in phases one and two three will continue with home-based online learning (PdPR), except for pupils who are sitting exams.
Data from the ministry shows that 97.46% of teachers have received one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine while 88.56% have been fully vaccinated. Around 2,000 teachers have refused to take the vaccine. – September 23, 2021.
