THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) did not find any elements of corruption in Rina Harun’s settlement of a RM1.3 million debt, Parliament and Law Minister Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar told the Dewan Rakyat today.
“MACC has investigated but did not find any elements of corruption or other crimes.
“The investigation found that the money that was used to pay the RM1.3 million debt did not come from corruption or other illegal sources,” he said.
Wan Junaidi (Santubong-GPS) was responding to questions on how the women, family and community development minister had managed to repay her debt of RM1.3 million when her declared assets were just RM72,000.
In February, Rina settled a RM1,340,642.02 claim filed by three French companies.
According to the MACC’s asset declaration record of cabinet ministers released last year, Rina had a monthly income of RM34,004.48 and assets valued at less than RM1 million.
MACC no longer makes such information public. The publication of asset declarations was initiated during the Pakatan Harapan administration.
Rina, who was one of the directors of Eurofine (M) Sdn Bhd, Fine Mobile Network Sdn Bhd and Fine TV Network Sdn Bhd, had bought several comedy programmes and documentaries from the production company Sarl Novovision between 2011 and 2013.
However, all three companies were closed down between December 2013 and August 2015.
In May 2014, Rina and another party made an assurance agreement with Sarl Novovision that they would bear the debts of all three companies. – September 23, 2021.
