MALAYSIA reported 250 Covid-19 deaths in the 24 hours up to midnight, a marked increase from the 116 fatalities reported the previous day.

According to data from the Health Ministry’s Git.hub raw data repository, only nine out of 250 fatalities took place yesterday.

The remaining 241 were backlog cases that had not been reported previously

Meanwhile, 49 cases were declared dead on arrival.

The cumulative Covid-19 death toll is now 24,931.

The ministry derives the daily figure from the sum total of the number of reported deaths on a given day, including backlog cases only just confirmed by the health authorities after completing their clinical investigations.

Selangor’s daily death toll increased from 33 the previous day to 65 deaths yesterday. Fourteen of the fatalities were declared dead on arrival.

However, only one death occurred in Selangor yesterday, while the rest were backlog cases. 

Other states and federal territories reporting deaths yesterday were: Kelantan (14), Penang (20), Sabah (43), Perak (14), Kuala Lumpur (six), Sarawak (16), Kedah (six) and Malacca (three), Johor (41), Negri Sembilan (four), Perlis (three), Pahang (nine) and Terengganu (six). 

No deaths were reported in Labuan or Putrajaya. 

The national average was 5.9 deaths per population of 100,000, with Penang reporting 15.6 deaths per 100,000, the highest figure by region.

The seven-day average for actual deaths was 91 cases.

Meanwhile, 14,554 new Covid-19 cases were reported yesterday, which brought the cumulative total to 2,171,232.

According to the CovidNow website, there are currently 195,837 active cases in the country, with 163,875 patients or 83.7% quarantined at home, 20,786 (10.6%) at low-risk quarantine centres and 10,121 (5.2%) in hospitals.

Of the active cases, 1,055 are receiving treatment in intensive care units, with 595 of those patients requiring respiratory support. – September 25, 2021.
