BARISAN Nasional (BN) has told its election machinery to prepare for snap polls in Malacca following the fall of its government today.

In a letter sighted by The Malaysian Insight, Malacca BN deputy election director Hasnoor Sdg Husin told all its machinery to gear up for state elections.

“Please prepare the election machinery as Malacca polls will be held once the state assembly is dissolved,” said Hasnoor.

“All must be ready to ensure victory for BN,” he added.

The letter, dated today, was copied to the BN headquarters, the Malacca BN chief, as well as MCA and MIC state chiefs.

The letter was also copied to all six division chiefs.

Prior to the letter, Malacca Umno liaison chief and state assembly Speaker Ab Rauf Yusoh hinted that the state assembly will be dissolved for snap polls.

Earlier today, Chief Minister Sulaiman Sulaiman Md Ali lost the majority in the 28-seat state assembly after four assemblymen announced they had lost confidence in him.

In a press conference today, former Malacca chief minister Idris Haron (Sg Udang) and three other assemblymen – Nor Azman Hassan (Pantai Kundor), Noor Effandi Ahmad (Telok Mas) and Norhizam Hassan Baktee (Pengkalan Batu) said they had lost confidence in Sulaiman.

Following the withdrawal of support, Sulaiman is now supported by 13 (12 from BN and one from Bersatu) assemblymen while the opposition has 15 (11 from Pakatan Harapan, two from BN, one from Bersatu and one independent). – October 4, 2021.
