PARLIAMENT today approved a motion to change the number of seats in a select committee from seven to nine.
Each committee will now consist of nine members with five representatives from the government and four from the opposition.
Law Minister Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar tabled the motion.
“This addition is in line with standing order 82(1),” he told the Dewan Rakyat.
The government and the opposition last week agreed to enlarge and change the composition of the parliamentary select committees.
Wan Junaidi informed the House that a new select committee on international affairs will be set up.
This is in addition to the nine select committees on the Federal Constitution; education; economy; security; agriculture; infrastructure development; women and children; health, science and innovation; and agencies under the Prime Minister’s Department.
Parliament also approved a motion for batik Thursday.
“This will see MPs wear long-sleeved batik attires on sittings that are held on Thursday,” Wan Junaidi said, adding that the dress code was not mandatory.
