Some tax exemptions under Budget 2022

FINANCE Minister Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz today announced tax exemptions and rebates for personal income, including for mental health screening. 

“The government intends to expand the scope of personal income tax exemption for cost of mental health screening services taken from registered psychiatrists, clinical psychologists and counsellors,” he said while tabling the Budget 2022 in Parliament today. 

In addition, employers will be given tax rebates for footing the vaccination cost for their employees’ booster shots while individuals who pay for their jabs will be given exemption for income tax. 

Meanwhile, special tax exemption for income tax of up to RM2,500 for the purchase of mobile phones, computers and tablets will be extended until the end of next year. 

To spur tourism activities, individuals could get up to RM1,000 exemption of their income taxes for domestic tourism activities. 

Tax exemption for purchase of vehicles including SUV and MPV will be extended until June 30, 2022. 

For individuals buying or dealing with electric vehicles, they could get a tax exemption of up to RM2,500.

Working mothers would be eligible for tax exemption of up to RM3,000 for their children’s kindergarten and nursery fees for the year of assessment of 2023. – October 29, 2021.
