PKR president Dr Wan Azizah defended her Pakatan Harapan colleague DAP against claims of being anti-Islam during her opening speech at the PKR Congress today.

She noted that the Penang government under DAP general secretary Lim Guan Eng, has allocated close to half a billion ringgit for the development of Islamic affairs in nine years.

While BN painted DAP and Lim as Islam’s bogeymen, the BN government in Penang had only allocated RM12 million a year for the development of Islamic affairs, said Dr Wan Azizah.

“Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has spent RM457 million from the year 2008 to 2017 to develop the Islamic affairs like the mosques and schools.

“BN on the other hand had only allocated RM12 million a year for it,” she said today.

Dr Wan Azizah said BN needed to use the race card as they had no other way to discredit Lim.

“Umno has labeled Guan Eng as anti-malay while MCA and Gerakan have also accused him for not helping Islam.

“Guan Eng has to face these made-up accusations. But PKR will face these allegations with you,” she said.

She added that PKR has done more in nine years compared to the 50 years BN has done when it ruled Penang. – May 21, 2017.
