PERIKATAN Nasional will be contesting in all 28 state seats in the Malacca elections, making it at least three-cornered fights in all seats.
Earlier today, both Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan announced they would be contesting in all seats.
Other independent candidates are also expected to enter the ring on nomination day on Monday.
PN’s decision was announced by chairman Muhyiddin Yassin during the candidate announcement ceremony.
Of the 28 seats, Bersatu will contest in 15, PAS in eight, and Gerakan in five.
Muhyiddin said 43% of the candidates are below 40 years of age and they are largely highly educated professionals.
“The component parties of the Perikatan Nasional who will take part in the Malacca elections, namely Bersatu, PAS and Gerakan, had reached a consensus on the list of candidates in a special supreme council meeting held yesterday.
“We do not promise the moon and stars to the people, but we are highly committed when given the mandate by the people. We will deliver to the best of our ability and we will ensure that no one will be left behind,” Muhyiddin said.
The former prime minister also boasted that PN had managed to win the Sabah elections in September last year, when the coalition had then only been established for a few months.
“At that time, the response of the Sabahans to PN was remarkable. I believe that Malacca voters will also provide tremendous support to PN in this coming election, based on studies I have seen and from my observations when on the ground,” he said.
The candidate announcement was made at the ballroom of Glenmarie Hotel and Golf Resort, Shah Alam.
Minister of Home Affairs Hamzah Zainudin, Minister of Youth and Sports Ahmad Faizal Azumu – both Bersatu leaders – and Gerakan president Dominic Lau Hoe Chai were also present.
PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, meanwhile, sent his greetings virtually to Malacca voters in a tearful plea for their support.
