Hospital admissions fall to 1,081

HOSPITAL admissions for Covid-19 continued on a downtrend as it dipped to 1,081 yesterday from 1,187 a day earlier, according to the Health Ministry’s CovidNow website.

The overall hospital bed utilisation rate was at 66.7%.

Hospital admission indicates the severity of the virus, while hospital utilisation includes bed usage, as well as the number of patients in the intensive care unit (ICU) and on those requiring ventilatory support.

Klang Valley had the highest daily admission at 333.

Other states that reported new admissions were Selangor with 280, Johor (179), Kedah (42), Kelantan (101), Malacca (28), Negri Sembilan(27), Pahang (51), Perak (49), Perlis(9), Penang (25), Sabah (105), Sarawak (69), Terengganu (63), Kuala Lumpur (37), and Putrajaya (16).

Labuan was the only state to report no new hospital admissions.

In terms of hospital utilisation, Terengganu was the highest with 85.9% of bed capacity taken up.

Meanwhile, ICU utilisation was 64.2% and 37.8% for ventilators.

There were 68,790 active Covid-19 cases in Malaysia as of last night. Of this number, 541 patients were treated in the ICU with 267 of them placed on respiratory support.

Meanwhile, 55,026 patients were put on home quarantine, 7,792 were admitted to low-risk quarantine centres while 5,431 were hospitalised.

Selangor logged the highest number of new cases yesterday with 1,365 infections.

Other states that recorded new cases were Kelantan (486), Sabah (543), Johor (494), Kedah (275), Pahang (265), Penang (271), Sarawak (292), Perak (177), Terengganu (258), Sabah (437), Sarawak (245), Terengganu (208), Kuala Lumpur (235), Malacca (142), Negri Sembilan (197), Putrajaya (31), Perlis (12) and Labuan (14). – November 22, 2021.
