Johor biggest beneficiary of approved investments in manufacturing

JOHOR was the biggest beneficiary of approved investments in the manufacturing sector with RM100.9 billion, Deputy Minister for International Trade and Industry Lim Ban Hong told the Dewan Rakyat today.

Lim said that between 2016 and June this year, the government had approved a total of 4,545 projects in the manufacturing sector, with an investment value totalling RM450.5 billion.

“Of that figure, 278.8 billion or 61.9% were in the form of foreign direct investment (FDI) while domestic direct investment (DDI) contributed RM171.7 billion or 38.1%,” Lim said during question time today.

He said the investment is expected to generate 370,883 job opportunities.

Lim added that five states, namely Johor, Selangor, Kedah, Penang and Sabah accounted for a bulk of the approved investments at RM326.8 billion.

Selangor received the second highest investments after Johor at RM72.5 billion, followed by Kedah (RM65.2 billion), Penang (RM53 billion) and Sabah (RM35.2 billion).

This was followed by Sarawak (RM34.3 billion), Pahang (RM22 billion), Perak (RM21.9 billion), Negri Sembilan (RM15.8 billion), Malacca (RM15.6 billion), Terengganu (RM9.7 billion), Kuala Lumpur (RM2.2 billion), Perlis (RM1.2 billion), Kelantan (RM0.7 billion) and Labuan (RM0.2 billion).

Lim was responding to a question by Teh Kok Lim (Taiping-PH) on the total amount of investment in the manufacturing industry by state for the last five years as well as the total amount of investment in the manufacturing industry within the Taiping parliamentary constituency from 2016 until 2021. – November 22, 2021.
