THERE will be no changes in the Selangor government as the three PAS executive councillors can keep their posts, Menteri Besar Azmin Ali said today, despite the Islamist party breaking up with PKR.
Azmin said Iskandar Abdul Samad, Zaidy Abdul Talib and Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi are still in the state government, and that their main focus is to win the next general election.
“It is not an issue, our focus is to win the 14th general election, so stability is paramount,” the PKR deputy president told reporters at the party congress in Shah Alam.
“(The three PAS excos are) Still there, is there a change? This congress is focused on the 14th general election… we have to move on and move forward,” he added.
When pressured by reporters on what the party will do about the three PAS excos, he said that the leadership will discuss the issue.
When asked by reporters when the meeting will be held, he replied, “When you decide the date then we will hold the meeting.”
He went on to say that the PKR leadership wants to “keep the door open” for PAS.
He also said PKR was well-prepared for GE14, including which parties it will contest against to win.
“Yes, we are prepared for any eventuality because we have prepared for a long time.
“We will see first, when Parliament is dissolved we will know who will fight who,” he said.
Many parties have been calling for PAS to resign from all its posts in Selangor.
Johor PKR Youth delegate Naim Justri had challenged PAS in his speech challenging PAS to step down.
Not only that, Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Amanah president Mohamad Sabu had also called for the Islamist party to relinquish its Selangor seats.
All these were brought on by PAS’ previous motion in its 63rd muktamar to sever all ties with PKR.
However, Selangor commissioner Sallehen Mukhyi had said that PAS legislators will continue to serve in Selangor government despite cutting ties with PKR. – May 21, 2017
