TICKET sales for the air and land vaccinated travel lane (VTL) between Malaysia and Singapore will be suspended from tomorrow to January 20, Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said today.
The decision comes after the Singapore Health Ministry reported three suspected Omicron cases in the republic.
“Taking into account the latest development in Singapore, MOH will be suspending the sales of bus and air tickets between the two countries from December 23 to January 20,” Khairy said in a statement.
However, he said, existing ticket holders can still proceed with their journey in accordance with the conditions laid out for the VTL.
Sales will resume on January 21, pending a risk assessment in both countries, Khairy added.
“However, the quota will be reduced.”
As of December 7, the MOH has stepped up measures for travellers entering Malaysia through the VTL, who are now required to take an RTK-Antigen each day for six days after arrival. The third and fifth tests must be performed by a certified medical professional.
The launch of the VTL between Malaysia and Singapore on November 29 was to facilitate quarantine-free, seamless cross-border movement by integrating health protocol, security and immigration clearance.
This initiative allowed people separated from their loved ones due to the pandemic to return home and be reunited with their families.
Travellers are required to be fully vaccinated, while unvaccinated children below the age of 12 must be accompanied by vaccinated parents or guardians. – December 22, 2021.
