405 flood victims test positive for Covid-19

A TOTAL of 405 flood victims have tested positive for Covid-19, director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.

However, no cases were detected in temporary flood relief shelters, he said. 

“As of 3pm today, the Health Ministry would like to inform that 405 Covid-19 cases have been detected among flood victims,” he said in a statement today. 

Noor Hisham said there are currently 363 relief centres in Kelantan, Pahang, Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Perak Kuala Lumpur and Malacca. 

A total of 53,696 people have been displaced by the floods, he added. 

As of noon today, there were 52,095 flood victims at the relief centres. 

Noor Hisham said 324 cases of other infectious diseases were also detected among flood victims. 

“There are 148 acute respiratory infection cases, 93 skin disease cases, 75 acute gastroenteritis cases and eight cases of conjunctivitis,” he said.

Noor Hisham advised all those placed in temporary shelters to continuously observe Covid-19 standard operating procedure as well as personal hygiene. 

Those who show symptoms of illnesses are advised to seek medical help, especially high-risk individuals such as senior citizens, children, pregnant women and people with comorbidities. – December 24, 2021.
