A TOTAL of 1,170 people were hospitalised with Covid-19 yesterday, the Health Ministry said.

This breaks a 25-day streak of fewer than 1,000 virus admissions a day nationwide.

The hospital utilisation rate currently stands at 64.2%, of which 28.3% are Covid-19 cases.

The number of hospital admissions indicates the severity of the virus. The hospital utilisation includes bed usage as well as the number of patients in intensive care units and on ventilators

There were 556 admissions in the Klang Valley, with a 54.1% hospital utilisation rate.

Selangor reported 514 admissions, while there were 12 in Kuala Lumpur and 30 in Putrajaya.

Other states that reported new admissions were Johor (170), Kedah (39), Kelantan (77), Malacca (11), Negri Sembilan (48), Pahang (17), Perak (28), Perlis (8), Penang (30), Sabah (102), Sarawak (53), Terengganu (30) and Labuan (1).

Meanwhile, 3,270 new Covid-19 infections were reported yesterday.

There were 1,178 cases in the Klang Valley yesterday. Of which, 908 were in Selangor, 245 in Kuala Lumpur and 25 from Putrajaya.

Other states that reported cases are Johor (344), Kedah (174), Kelantan (327), Malacca (74), Negri Sembilan (181), Pahang (153), Perak (122), Perlis (25), Penang (222), Sabah (280), Sarawak (47), Terengganu (128) and Labuan (15).

There are currently 39,739 active cases.

Around 32,509 (81.8%) of these cases are in home quarantine, 3,574 (9%) are in government quarantine centres and 3,399 (8.6%) are in hospital.

There are 257 Covid-19 patients in intensive care units, 137 of which are on a ventilator. – January 6, 2022.
