Malaysia reports 16 Covid-19 deaths, all backlog

THE country had 16 deaths added to Covid-19 toll yesterday, according to the Health Ministry’s GitHub raw data repository. 

All were backlog cases. Of the total, two were classified dead on arrival (DOA). 

To date, the country recorded 31,644 Covid-19 deaths, of which 6,384 were DOA cases. 

The daily death figure is the sum total of the number of reported deaths on the day plus backlog cases only just confirmed by the health authorities to be due to Covid-19.

Johor reported four deaths, the highest by states or territories. Sabah reported three deaths, while Kedah and Selangor saw two deaths each.

Perak, Perlis, Penang, Sarawak and Terengganu reported one death each. 

No fatalities were reported in Kelantan, Malacca, Negri Sembilan, Pahang, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan. 

Malaysia’s fatality rate stood at 0.7%, with the national average for coronavirus deaths at eight per population of 1 million. – January 8, 2022.
