Ministry reports 889 Covid-19 hospital admissions

MALAYSIA continues to report fewer than one thousand Covid-19 admissions after 889 were admitted yesterday.

The CovidNow website showed 65.7% overall hospital utilisation yesterday, with the number for Covid-19 patients down to 26.9%

The hospital admission rate indicates the severity of the virus. Hospital utilisation includes bed occupancy as well as the number of patients in intensive care units and on ventilators.

The Klang Valley region continued to report the highest number of admissions by state or territory at 350.

Selangor registered 274 of those cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (54) and Putrajaya (22).

Bed utilisation in the Klang Valley, including for non-Covid cases, was 58.7%

Other states that reported new admissions were Johor (177), Kedah (39), Kelantan (56), Malacca (8), Perlis (6), Negri Sembilan (39), Pahang (22), Perak (27), Penang (23), Sabah (88), Sarawak (40), Terengganu (13) and Labuan (1).

Although Malacca reported one the fewest Covid-19 admissions yesterday, its overall bed utilisation was 83.6% the highest by state or territory.

Meanwhile, Malaysia reported 3,251 fresh coronavirus cases yesterday.

There were 1,186 cases in the Klang Valley – 871 in Selangor, 301 in Kuala Lumpur and 14 in Putrajaya.

Other states and territories reporting new cases were Johor (376), Kedah (187), Kelantan (326), Malacca (199), Negri Sembilan (139), Pahang (219), Perak (132), Perlis (20), Penang (169), Sabah (199), Sarawak (15), Terengganu (79), and Labuan (5).

The number of active cases is 39,776. Of the figure, 32,866 patients were in home quarantine, 3,230 in low-risk quarantine centres and 3,427 in hospital.

There were 253 people in intensive care, 115 of whom were on a ventilator. – January 9, 2022.
