A GROUP of mechanics from Kluang, Johor, are now providing free repairs for flood-damaged motorcycles in Banting, Selangor, after a successful mission in Hulu Langat.

It has rallied 30 mechanics from 12 workshops to fix affected vehicles in Kampung Bukit Changgang and Kampung Labohan Dagang.

Group spokesman Ibnu Feisal, 35, said the members hope to repair 300 motorcycles in Banting.

“We started repair services at 9.30am yesterday, and received more than 100 damaged motorcycles by afternoon,” the Ujang Motorsport owner told The Malaysian Insight.

“We heard that these two villages were badly affected by floods; that is why we came here this time around.”

The group will be offering their services from 9.30am to 6pm in both villages for two days (yesterday and today).

It has set up shop at Masjid Al-Mutmainnah and managed to spread the word around with the help of the muezzin.

It provides various services, such as oil change and changing of carburettors and spark plugs.

Ibnu said the group intends to help as many people as possible as most cannot afford to send their motorcycles for repairs.

“Repairs will cost at least RM200 outside, and many people cannot afford that. We have the skills and are sincere in helping.”

The mechanics not only donate their time and skills, but also provide replacement parts for free – despite having to spend on accommodation and transport.

“The parts that we brought with us this time are worth about RM15,000. This trip costs us about RM200 in petrol and RM600 for two nights at a homestay,” said Ibnu, adding that the group rented three houses.

He said after Banting, the group plans to travel to Mentakab, Pahang.

“Next, we will go to Mentakab, but we are not sure when. We will have to look at the weather. If it rains, we cannot do repairs.”

The mechanics repaired more than 100 motorcycles in Taman Sri Nanding in the span of three days at the end of last month.

Continuous heavy rain from December 18 to 19 submerged many areas in the Klang Valley.

Banting and Hulu Langat are among the hard-hit areas, with waters rising to roof-level. Some families have also had their houses swept away by the strong currents. – January 14, 2022.
