804 hospitalised with Covid

MALAYSIA reported 804 Covid hospital admissions yesterday, the 18th day in a row daily virus hospitalisations have been below 1,000.

The CovidNow website showed a hospital utilisation rate of 64%, up from 63.8% the day before, while the bed take-up rate for coronavirus cases also grew from 26.5% to 27.9%.

Ventilator utilisation stood at 35.3% while intensive care unit (ICU) occupancy was at 52.9%, of which 16.6% were due to Covid.

The hospital admission rate indicates the severity of the virus. Hospital utilisation includes bed occupancy as well as the number of patients in ICU and on ventilators. 

The Klang Valley region continued to post the most number of admissions at 280. Selangor accounted for 232 of them, Kuala Lumpur (47), and Putrajaya (1). 

Hospital bed utilisation in the Klang Valley, inclusive of non-Covid cases, stood at 56.7%. 

Other states and territories that reported new hospitalisations were Johor (183), Kedah (15), Kelantan (63), Malacca (9), Negri Sembilan (37), Pahang (20), Perak (35), Perlis (8), Penang (5), Sabah (93), Sarawak (47), and Terengganu (9). 

Kedah had the highest hospital bed utilisation rate, at 80%. 

Meanwhile, Malaysia yesterday registered 3,856 new infections, 1,467 of them in the Klang Valley. 

Selangor logged 1,063 cases, Kuala Lumpur (379), and Putrajaya (25).

Other states and territories reporting new cases were Johor (524), Kedah (289), Kelantan (223), Malacca (201), Negri Sembilan (258), Pahang (264), Perak (159), Perlis (13), Penang (206), Sabah (172), Sarawak (14), Terengganu (56), and Labuan (10). 

The active caseload added up to 45,120, of which 37,491 were in home quarantine, 4,644 in low-risk quarantine centres, and 2,842 in hospitals.

There were 143 patients in intensive care, 53 of them on ventilators. – January 24, 2022.
